Do you fear Mercury Retrograde?
I know I did...
Years ago I heard of this time astrologers call “mercury retrograde” ~ a time where communication could get disrupted, both verbally and electronically. I remember hearing that it was a time to avoid signing contracts, to be careful in communication with others, a time where electronic devices could break, etc., etc.
When a mercury retrograde was coming I’d think “oh sh$%#”....
But no more.
Since I've learned more about astrology, I’ve learned two things.
One is that mercury doesn’t actually go retrograde in the sky (it’s just looks that way-an illusion from our perspective). And the second thing I learned is this:
There is never anything to fear when mercury retrograde comes around; or when we see certain aspects in our own natal chart. There are no “good” or “bad” planets. The thing to focus on is what value or aspect of that planet are you tuning into - the more refined value or the unrefined value.
Mercury is a relatively small planet that moves quickly ~ only slightly larger than the earth’s moon. This makes it a sensitive planet which means that it is more easily impacted by what's happening around it. It is also the planet of communication, the planet of the 5th (throat) Chakra - your voice.
So what does this mean for you?
When I do Vedic astrology (Jyotish) readings, I look at where the mercury is in your chart and see if it needs to be supported, for example. If it does, I may give you a mercury mantra, as the mantra will help you to align to the higher values of this planet. A strong mercury means that you have the capacity to absorb and share knowledge; you have the capacity to share and organize your thoughts, so that when you speak, your words have great impact.
On the other hand, if you are struggling with mercury, there can be confusion, over-analyzing or over-thinking, nervous system issues, etc.
So, what to do when mercury retrograde comes?
Yes, communication and electronics can get disrupted ~ but instead of focusing on that ~ join me in shifting focus to the higher communication of this planet.
Start with this:
Chant “Om aim Saraswati Namaha” ~ the deity of the 5th chakra and the deity of wisdom.
Tune in and notice how you feel and notice how the "season" goes for you this time around.
